Manfred (former engineer) and Ai Peng (former banker), the couple behind Lou Shang Bar & Café, want two beautiful things for you:
1) To feel at home in their eclectic, tasteful specialty bar.
2) To drink good bourbon.
What nice people.
They’ve handpicked everything to create a warm and homey ambiance, from the stuffed moose head on the wall that Ai hauled across Europe, to the lighting feature crafted from a branch that Manfred himself chopped down from a mango tree in his family’s backyard. Then there’s the cheeky menu, illustrated by children’s book author and friend Vayfern Tan.
And the bourbon? Bottles curated from abroad, their contents finding their way into your glass -- remember, order neat, then on the rocks -- after being smuggled through customs, one liter at a time, by alcohol mules (a.k.a. visiting friends).
Now let’s talk off-menu. There are monthly specials, but check out the right end of the shelf, where Lou Shang’s award-winning head bartender keeps the house-infused concoctions: bourbon with caramel popcorn, gin with chrysanthemum flowers, even bak kua (that’s pork jerky) with whiskey.
It’s like you’re in someone’s living room. A perfectly decorated living room with someone who knows how to make very fine drinks.

Lou Shang literally means “upstairs” in Chinese, and is appropriately located there. The ground-floor entrance is unassuming, so look up to find the right one. It's up one flight, and the door on your right side will lead you into a whole new world.
